Welcome!

February 14th, 2007

Welcome to the website of the Westman Triumphs endurance sport club.

This is a quick note for newcomers who may be considering an attempt at the sport. I’ll start with the good news. If you can swim back and forth across a 25-metre pool 30 times, you can do the 750 metres required in a Sprint race. And while a 20-kilometre bike ride and a 5-km run may seem daunting, you can likely do it. It’s all just a matter of how long it takes.

While the Triumphs have some world-class talents and several members who have completed Ironman distance races (3.8-km swim, km bike, 42.2-km run), our focus is on helping normal folks enter the sport and hopefully continue to participate.

Every year, newcomers are introduced to the sport in Brandon. One of the real strengths of our fairly small, closely knit club is that mentoring is something that is very important to us. I’ll never forget how helpful the advice was before I did my first race in 2002. (In fact I give three people credit for helping me to get through that day!)

For some triathlon newcomers, it’s something to stroke off their list of life achievements and they move on. Others quickly get hooked on that wonderful feeling of pushing themselves. Either way, we’re here to help.

Now a little about our club.

Our members come in all ages, shapes and sizes, from a variety of athletic backgrounds. Some race in triathlons, some don’t. But we’re united in the hope that each time we run or pedal or swim, we’ll eventually push ourselves past what we once thought were our physical limits.

So what does your $20 annual membership buy you?

Aside from invitations to some great gatherings - an athlete cannot live by exercise alone - you’ll be able to join in our many workouts and clinics. You can participate in whatever you want, whenever you want. There’s never any pressure to do more than you’re comfortable with.

So whether you’re considering your first triathlon or 50th, we have something to offer. And even if you would just like to spruce up your specialty like running, swimming or riding, you’re more than welcome to join us.

Please leave a note on our forum if you’ve visited the website and might be interested in trying to do a triathlon. Good luck with your training.
